What problems do wildlife cause?

Most of the calls we get are because homeowners hear animals scurrying around inside the attic or walls. Most of the damage inside a houes or attic is unseen. Rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats often chew on electrical wires. Wildlife such as raccoons, bats, birds, opossums, and rats spread several diseases that humans can and do catch, such as Histoplasmosis, Salmonella, Leptospirosis and more. Many critters leave droppings and urine in an attic or cause mold or odor problems. We also handle animals outside the house. It could be a critter that has dug a large hole next to your house, or a raccoon in your garbage cans, an opossum that is stealing pet food, or a skunk living under your deck, causing an odor problem. Some animals destroy your garden or landscaping. Or perhaps you are simply scared of snakes. How To Get Critters Out From Under Your Porch, Shed Or Deck
One of the situations in which people can find they come into contact with wild animals is if they actually move into the space under a porch, shed or deck. These locations will hold many attractions for skunks, foxes, groundhogs, and other animals, because it delivers a dark and secure space where they can build a nest relatively undisturbed. There are some signs that an unwanted critter may be present, but these signs can often be mistaken for a skunk or an opossum, which are also animals that like to use spaces such as these for their den. Sometimes a raccoon will live not just in your attic, but under your porch or shed, so call us for Nashville raccoon removal and trapping if that's the case.

Investigating An Animal Under A Porch, Shed Or Deck
Probably the most important thing to note when you are dealing with an animal in a cavity under your home or an outbuilding is not to go crawling in there straight away. Whether the animal is a fox or another creature, they are likely to be very protective about their den, and can act unpredictably when confronted by a large presence approaching their den. The best way to identify the animal is by close observation and to see whether there are any signs of the animal itself. Snakes can also live under a shed or porch, and we provide Nashville snake removal services. Our rat control and rodent trapping services also help keep snakes out from under your house.

Catching And Getting Rid Of The Nuisance Critters
One of the problems that is associated with getting rid of skunks, foxes, groundhogs, and other animals is that they are very difficult to get rid of, and there are very few situations in which animal repellents can be successful. For most people they will need to actually trap the fox and then remove the animal, or to dispose of the carcass if you are choosing to use a lethal trap. Whichever option you choose in terms of the trap you choose, there are a few clear rules when it comes to setting your trap. It is vital to make sure that the trap is in a position where it is unlikely to catch a domestic pet. If you are dealing with the pest animal and you are intending to use a lethal trap, it would be wise to ensure that you are keeping your pets indoors, and you may want to let your neighbors know you are using such a trap too. In terms of baiting a trap, whether it is a lethal or live cage trap, it may be worth considering pre-baiting the area in which you set the trap if it isn’t going to be near the wild critter’s exit point. This is where food is set out in a certain position for a day or two before the trap is set, as skunks, foxes, groundhogs, and other animals are creatures of habit who will return to the same place where they find food. They will usually be attracted to carrion, so a dead rabbit that is around a week old or something similar can work, although many people also have a lot of success using mackerel.

Check For Skunk, Fox, Groundhog Babies or Cubs
Once you have found and trapped an adult skunk, fox, or groundhog, you will need to check to see if it is female, and whether or not the teats are showing signs of feeding young foxes. If this is the case, then it is important to deal with the cubs as well, otherwise they can become a smelly problem if they die when under your porch shed or deck.

Taking Preventative Measures
Having removed the pest critter and any young from under your home or outbuilding, the next thing is to put measures in place to ensure that the foxes cannot get under the building again. This can be done by installing a wire mesh fence that will cover all of the spaces under porch, deck or shed, and then building up the dirt around this fence so that they cannot dig underneath either.

We speciaize in bat removal - the Tennessee little brown bat has fur uniformly covering its body which is usually brown in color whereby the underneath fur is slightly pale with grayish fur. It has wing membranes that are dark brown in color; the membranes are also stretched out and thin in length. It has very small ears that are black and short. It is smaller in size and therefore weighs less than half an ounce and the wingspan is approximately eleven inches. An amazing fact about them is that the females are usually larger than the males. This Nashville-area bat lives in different roosting sites, ideally there are three common sites; day, night and hibernation roosts. The day and night roosts are usually used during spring, fall and summer while the hibernation ones are usually used during the winter periods.
